Love stories from IITR

"You cant marry my daughter because you are not an Engineer but just a jobless Arts graduate"
He was heart broken when he heard this from the father of the girl he loved. The year was 1934 & this story is from Punjab (now in Pakistan).
He promised both the girl & his father that he will become an engineer & then ask for her hand.
He found out about IIT Roorkee (then Thomason College of Engineering) & decided to prepare for the entrance exam. He studied day & night for over a year, when the results came, he was the only one from Punjab who got selected, probably the oldest in the class.
He had no money, studied on borrowed books when his classmates were sleeping & graduated with flying colours. The govt offered him a job of an engineer.
He went back to meet his girl only to find her dad had passed away & her family did not want her to get married to him. But the girl put her foot down & decided she will not get married to anyone else.
It took a few years for her family to agree & they got married after 8 years of courtship.
The certificate that he got 82 years ago when he graduated is still with me. I owe my existence to my grandparents love & this piece of paper. It is a gentle reminder that love can make anything possible.
